Graphic Novel Review

1.) I found this graphic novel to be very different than other books, which I have read in the past. I felt that the author was trying to convey a message, which was that you should never take what you have for granted. I noticed throughout the book that the characters seemed to be regretting things they did or tried to fix things they have done. For instance, at the end of the book Enid went back for advice from Bob Skeetes, whom she had been very rude to earlier in the book. Also Rebecca noticed how much she would miss Enid once she left for collage. I did not like this graphic novel because I did not like the ending I found it to be confusing and did not rap up the story. I felt like there was a lot of useless information in the story and they kept changing the main point of the story.

2.) Enid, is one of the two main characters, I noticed throughout my reading of this graphic novel that she seems to not be confident of herself. She tends to judge others and herself very easily and I don’t think she has found the person inside of her who has not yet come out. Enid seems to be the type of girl who is very creative and she dresses up like a new person everyday in hopes to relate to one. I think that that shows a sign of weakness, because she is not being herself and leaving her vulnerable. She has much more potential than she thinks.

3.)

This panel caught my attention because it was the first panel to make me relies that Enid was changing her fashion and appearance daily. I felt this was important because you got to understand her character much more clearly.

I found this panel to be quite humorous, it showed how Rebecca and Enid are always picking on Josh and the way they treat him.

I took a second look at this panel because I realized that even though Enid didn’t like Bob Skeetes very much she was able to grow to see him for more than she previously had and sleeked him for advice.

Video Game Review Paragraph

“Call Of Duty: World at War” is the 5th game of the “Call of Duty” (COD) series. “Call Of Duty 5” is a first-person shooter game. This game has been adapted to be played for a few different types of game systems; such as Play Station 3, Will, Xbox 360 and the PC. “Call of Duty World at War” was developed by Trey arch and published by Activision for all of the systems it can be played on. On November 11, 2008, this game was released to North American and 3 days later was released to Europe.

Call of Duty World at War is a war game which is focused on World War II, mainly the Pacific and Eastern fronts. There are two teams, which you have the option to play on, the Marine Raider Privates and the Red army. The maps (areas of the battle fields you play in), which you have the opportunity to play, are in America, Japan, Russia, and Germany. Many great historical battles take place through out the game. COD is available to be played in story mode and online. In both story mode and online you have to level up to use certain weapons and play in certain areas, but in story mode you also count on your team to help you out because you have to follow them a lot of the time, but in comparison while you are playing online you do not need to count on your team mates to help you out.

I found this game to be very engaging because there are many maps you can play on and so many different techniques you learn. You figure out and the advantages of certain weapons and look forward to gaining a level, which I found really kept me interested. For instance if you can find a good hiding spot where a lot of action occurs using a Sniper can greatly come out to your advantage, but if you prefer being in the action machine guns are better. I enjoy playing this game because of all the action involved. It was a lot of fun being able to snipe other players and bringing out other types of guns like pistols and machine guns and killing others. As you level up more guns, weapons and areas are available to you, I looked forward to leveling up because I would be able to enjoy the game more because I would have a better gun.

To improve this game I would bring in another team, this way the game would be even more intense than it already is. Not only will you be playing against another set of opponents, but 2 more sets. “Call Of Duty” has made the game very realistic because of the buildings, players, weapons and surroundings, but to make the game even better I would give the players the opportunity to use helicopters and planes and bomb the grounds. I really enjoy playing this game and look forward to the next COD game, when is becomes available.

Impulse by: Ellen Hopkins

Mackenzie Horton

Over the summer I read the book Impulse by Ellen Hopkins. Impulse is a

thrilling novel that is able to grasp your attention and hold it through out the

book. It is definitely one of my favorite novels along with the Harry Potter

series and The Outsiders.

1.) Impulse is a book about three teenagers, Tony, Vanessa and Conner who

all have very different problems and all manage to connect. The three of them

all tried to commit suicide and in result got sent to a drug center where they

are faced with many challenges and hope to become a better person. In this

novel you get a chance to experience a totally different kind of life and how

bad it can really get for some people. You read about how they strive to

overcome there problems and fears and how they get to where they are now.

2.) In this novel my favorite character is Conner because in the end he really

leaves you thinking. He is the kind of guy who is really buff and very

handsome and looks like he would have the perfect life but on the inside

everything is messed up for him. His mother is insane and his friends are

turning on him and he just can’t take it. So he finds there can only be one

other option….MURDER. But when he missed the heart and hit a bone his

dad thought it would be best for him to go to this drub center. He made so

much effort and went a long way but that made a tragic mistake. Which made

me relies to always think before I act and weigh my options.

3.)This book was interesting because you got to experience a whole other

world. I liked how they continued to strive throughout the book and never

gave up, that is one trait I took out of the book. the books writing style was

written as a poem so it kept me interested because it was something I wasn’t

use to.

4.)“Act on your impulse, swallow the bottle, cut a little deeper, put the gun to

your chest.” I must have read that sentence in the book at least a dozen times

because it was so powerful. In one sentence the author was able to capture all

of the kids problems. How Tony pops pills, how Vanessa cuts herself and

how Conner tried to shot himself. All attempts of murder.

“Sometimes you’re traveling a highway, the only rode you’ve known and

Wham! A semi comes from nowhere and rolls right over you.” That sentence

told me that even if you have a boring life where you relies that you notice

that the only good thing about one day ending is that it will all happen again

tomorrow that surprise could always happen and especially when you don’t

expect it.

This book is a great novel and I would highly recommend it to anyone

fourteen years and older. I look forward to get started on the other books,

Burner, Crank and Glass.
